Aside from wireless broadband, the Network Performance Report 2018 that was revealed by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) earlier today also includes wired broadband services. As per what we have noted earlier, the report was presented at its HQ to only a select group of media which doesn’t include us.

Nevertheless, the team at SoyaCincau who was present at the briefing was kind enough to share the presentation slides through its Twitter.

Based on the charts from MCMC, all fixed broadband services that the agency has tested from three providers including TM, Maxis, and Time have generally met the Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (MSQoS) when it comes to speed. That even includes TM’s Streamyx and Maxis’ DSL services.

In fact, Streamyx and Maxis DSL services have actually surpassed last year’s rating as they apparently have managed to achieve 99.98% and 100% of the MSQoS. On another hand, unifi, and Time Fibre have seen a drop in rating as compared to 2017 although the drop might be minuscule. Maxis is the only company that managed to increase its rating for speed although once again, the changes don’t seem significant.

When it comes to latency though, TM’s Streamyx once again didn’t meet the standard just like in 2017. However, there was indeed some improvements in Streamyx’s latency rating although this also applies to other fixed broadband services as well.

In order to come out with these figures, MCMC stated that the data collection took place from January to December 2018 through 200 fixed broadband locations throughout Malaysia. It goes without saying that the agency will continue doing these tests to keep the players in check and protect consumers.
