Telco and home fibre company Maxis has now added solar panels to its portfolio of offerings with its new Home Solar subscription service. Available only to Maxis subscribers in Klang Valley, the service offers customers the option to have solar panels installed in their home to reduce their electricity bills with a low upfront cost.
The company claims that you can save up to 25% on your electricity bill with solar panels. According to its examples, small homes with a monthly TNB bill of RM500 can save about RM120, while large homes with a RM1,300 bill can save an estimated RM296. Once you register your interest, their solar team will assess your home and recommend the optimal system size.

Users will have two options when signing up for the subscription. They can either choose to pay a flat monthly fee or pay based on the amount of energy produced. Take note, however, that there is a minimum tenure of 10 years, with no option to change subscription packages, although you can get a discount on the early termination charge if you have used it for at least five years.
The Home Solar package also provides a 30-year warranty on your system along with insurance coverage, maintenance, and 24/7 system monitoring. Maxis claims that it only uses Tier 1 Certified solar panels and inverters with installations handled by registered service providers accredited by SEDA.
Once you are registered with the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme, you will be eligible for the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS) scheme, which gives people with solar panels installed on their homes a one-time cash rebate of up to RM4,000. The rebate has been extended until 30 April 2025.
